Are you aware of the fact that a male frog can change his gender to become a female? Double tap the screen and let’s understand how this gender-changing phenomenon takes place among the frogs.
A frog is an amphibian, i.e., it can survive both on land and in water. Various research performed on frogs have shown that under some conditions, male frogs convert themselves into females by changing their gender.
Researchers claim that the gender change among the male frogs living in the water polluted with the weed controller or Atrazine is way more than the male frogs living in other water bodies. The chemicals present in this polluted water, drop the male hormone – Testosterone by a significant level and increases the female hormone called Estrogen in the male frogs. This alteration in the hormone results in the development of the female reproductive system in the male frogs, and then those frogs start to lay eggs like females.
Apart from this, various studies have shown that the freshwater ponds that consist of a negligible number of female frogs, the male frogs living in those ponds got their gender changed because of the development of the female reproductive system under some environmental changes and also to balance the sex ratio.
