Black holes are carnivorous creatures that can and will eat you. That’s the lesson I’m taking away from this terrifying video NASA just took with multiple telescopes. Right, this is a star just minding its own business 250 million lightyears from Earth. And this is that same star, the red dot on the right, unwittingly wandering toward a black hole. Then when it gets too close, the black hole snares it in the jaws of gravity, sucking it into a long tasty noodle of hot gas. At which point the dying star spaghetti-fies into a deliciously digestible corona around its predator. Something that could one day happen to our Sun as we hurdle through the inconceivable blackness of the void.
