Back in 1977, a 72-second data sequence of narrowband radio waves was received by a radio telescope in the US that famously came to be known as the Wow! Signal. Decades later, researchers still have no idea where exactly the signal came from or what caused it, prompting wild speculation about it being the proof that we are not alone in the Universe.
Now according to a new study published in the International Journal of Astrobiology, astronomers think this prominent and still-mysterious “Wow!” Signal, may have come from a potentially habitable sun-like star system located 1,800 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius.
This star has an estimated temperature only five degrees higher than the Sun, and a radius and luminosity almost identical. Researchers highlighted that focussing on the Sun-like star would be a great idea to look for habitable planets and alien civilizations.
