Today, February 8th, is Extraterrestrial Culture Day! It is a day to celebrate all life beyond the third rock from the sun!
In this video, Jared discusses the first time citizens of Sacramento witnessed an unidentified flying object travel over the city on November 17, 1896. The San Francisco Call and Sacramento Bee newspapers devoted a lot of space in their papers to publish eye-witness accounts while the Sacramento Daily Record Union thought it was a hoax. Public interest increased when it returned 5 days later. It turned out what people witnessed was an airship for the first time and the event created a media frenzy that lasted for weeks in the local newspapers.
The small cut Jared printed was originally created to help advertise a past exhibit that our museum and Powerhouse Science Center presented over a decade ago.
