Astronomy Facts: The NASA Curiosity exploration rover took this photo of a strange ‘slithering’ rock formation on the surface of Mars, the fourth planet in the Solar System. The slithering structures on the Martian surface were caused by erosion, according to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). The structures are located in the Gale impact crater, which was created by a meteor strike about 3.7 billion years ago.
